The Academy was founded in 1991, by Dr. Lorraine Monroe, (former Deputy Chancellor of Instruction) and a staff of dedicated professionals who believed that all students can achieve academic excellence. The Frederick Douglass Academy is a collaborative between Community School District 5 and the High School Division. Every year In June, The Frederick Douglass Academy celebrates the fulfillment of dreams. Dreams which are shared by countless numbers of parents, teachers and staff of The Frederick Douglass Academy - that of their child graduating high school and beginning their undergraduate studies. The goal of the school is to provide a rich, vigorous and challenging academic curriculum that will enable our students to enter the college of their choice.
