San Fernando High School is a large comprehensive high school in the Los Angeles Unified School district serving over 4,600 students. Opening its door in 1896, SFHS is the second oldest school in the San Fernando Valley. The majority of the students live within the residential area from the communities of Arleta, Lake View Terrace, Mission Hills, Pacoima, and San Fernando. Ninety eight percent of the student population is Hispanic, reflecting the community the school serves. The students attend classes on a three-track, year-round calendar offering a wide variety of programs including the Math/Science Technology Magnet, Humanitas Program, Multi-lingual Teacher Academy, University of California Puente Program, CSU College Preparation Program, and Perkins Program. SFHS is the only high school in California served by Project GRAD, a non-profit organization offering college scholarships to all qualifying students.
