From the Site of Walter Johnson High School:
When Walter Johnson High School opened in 1956 the early graduates observed cows grazing nearby their school of 600 students. Today, students see office buildings and shopping malls and enrollment stands at about 1,800 students. Walter Perry Johnson, for whom the school was named, was a member of the Montgomery County Council in the 1940's. But he is best known as a pitcher for the Washington Senators where he played from 1907-1927.
