From the Site of Sherwood High School:
Sherwood High, formerly named the Friends’ School, was established in 1883 and was built on land donated by a resident Mary Roberts. The school was called “one of the best improvements made in the Sandy Spring neighborhood.” The Sherwood High School Community fosters a challenging learning environment that promotes academic excellence, encourages individual growth, celebrates diversity, and develops productive citizens. Today, nearly 2000 students are enrolled at Sherwood High School.
