From the Site of the Washington International School:
Washington International School was founded and incorporated in 1966 in the District of Columbia by Dorothy Goodman as a nonprofit institution to meet the educational needs of the city's large international community, as well as the needs of American families seeking an academically rigorous independent education in a challenging and enriching international environment. Washington International School introduces students to the world's cultural heritage through a rigorous curriculum, international in its approach to people, knowledge, values, and skills. Commitment to intensive language learning is fundamental to the program.
