From the Site of Maya Angelou Public Charter School: Maya Angelou Public Charter School stands in stark contrast to many of the alternative schools its students have attended in the past. Its emphasis is on helping at-risk and court-involved teens to realize their dreams of enrolling in college or embarking on a career, through a comprehensive set of programs and activities. At Maya Angelou, school is relevant, challenging, supportive, and technology enhanced. All students take core courses in math, social studies, technology, English, and life skills. It keeps class size small with most classes averaging 8 to 10 students.
